Happy hump day everyone!
Hope you’re having a lovely week so far. For my BC friends, we’re coming up on a long weekend in a couple days (Family Day!!!)
Greg and I were both feeling a little ‘blah’ at the end of the last week. A little tired, a little sluggish, feeling like we might be getting sick etc. So we decided to do a Smoothie Cleanse that we’ve done before.
I am not one for doing these crazy ‘diets’ like the Master Cleanse (where you drink water with honey, lemon and cayenne only, for days on end!) But I am all about doing a couple day long ‘detox’ to cleanse the body, release toxins and restart the body.
The cleanse Greg and I like to do is from Healthy Green Flamingo , and it’s great. It’s super well laid out, and comes with a grocery list, and recipes for the full 3 days! There’s also an overview with some alternate instructions, reasons why it’s a good option for a cleanse, and more – check out that overview here.
I’m not saying I’m super excited to drink each and every one of these smoothies for 3 days you guys… but I am saying it’s totally doable, I don’t feel starving between smoothies (yesterday I didn’t even have the fourth smoothie of the day because I wasn’t really hungry for it), and I feel awesome when we’re done. Each day you have 4 smoothies. Each smoothie has a green base (spinach, kale, celery, parsley etc) with a fat source (avocado, coconut oil), some fruit, and some herbs/nut milk/plant based protein if you choose. For more detail though, check out the links I’ve given above!
The other thing we do when we start this cleanse, is a Salt Flush on the first morning. The one that we tend to follow is here, and this link actually includes a smoothie cleanse too. Scroll to the bottom of the post to see instructions on the salt flush. Not gonna lie – this part is the WORST. IT’s really gross, and super hard to get the salt water down. But it DOES do wonders for your digestion and to really ‘clean you out’ before cleansing.
Let me know if you have any questions about the cleanse and I’ll do my best to answer them! I am by no means an expert… but I’ve done it a few times and would encourage you to try it if you need a little reboot or if you’re feeling bogged down and yuck.
Moving on!
Another thing that can really help you recharge and reboot your system, believe it or not, is spending some time Upside Down!
I touched on it a little bit yesterday in my instagram post, since the #riseandsweat suggestion for today is infact Inversions. I actually have done a couple posts before on the benefits of inversions… One here (includes mine and Greg’s best halloween costumes EVER), and here .
Like I mentioned on instagram — reasons to #gettheeffupsidedown!!!
Improve Circulation
By reversing blood flow in the body, having the head below the heart. This is so important for people with poor circulation and for those that always have cold extremities (like me!)
Increase Immunity/Illness Prevention
Just like Laura said!! Being upside down helps the lymph travel through our bodies, and lymph helps to eliminate toxins and bacteria
ENERGIZE!
Inversions get blood to the brain, revitalizing us and giving us a surge of energy! Next time youโre falling asleep at your desk, skip the coffee and try doing a quick forward fold (or a head or handstand if youโre really gung ho) and see how you feel after. What about the inversions?
The list really does go on and on for benefits of inversions here guys, but these are just a few of my faves and ones that I felt are pretty important to most people!
Like I said, any time your head is below your heart is considered an inversion, but if you want to learn how to do a head or a hand stand check out thisYouTube video I found explaining it.
That’s it that’s all kids… Enjoy the rest of your hump day and get ready for the weekend!!!
xxx
