Stay motivated year round!

What do you do when you just canโ€™t get your butt off the couch to get in a workout or a run? It definitely happens to the best of us every now and again โ€“ but the key is knowing how to get over that hump, and how to get back to being motivated (and STAY motivated!)

It is important to figure out what works for you, but here are some of the tricks that I use to keep at it even when Iโ€™m not necessarily feelinโ€™ it.

Sign up for races/events

This is a really easy way to always have little goals to work towards. I always find if Iโ€™m training for something, I push really hard until that time comes to achieve the results/time that I wanted. Itโ€™s essential to sign up for a few races or events spread out over a little while, so youโ€™re constantly working towards something!

Have a buddy to keep you accountable

How easy is it to hit โ€˜snoozeโ€™ one too many times when itโ€™s rainy, or you just need a couple more minutes to sleep? Too easy! If youโ€™re meeting someone, theyโ€™re counting on you to be there (especially if you train first thing in the morning, and theyโ€™ve woken up to meet you!). This is a really easy way to be sure you stick to your schedule, and also to have someone there to help when youโ€™re needing a little push!

Change your routine every 3 weeks

If you want to see results and also challenge yourself, itโ€™s crucial to change up your routine every 3 weeks or so. When we do the same thing too many times, we can end up plateauing because our muscles know exactly what to expect. When we change our routing every few weeks, we keep our bodies guessing and drive results. Plus, itโ€™s more exciting for us โ€“ nobody wants to do the same thing every day, indefinitely!

Do what you LIKE to do ย

At the end of the day, if you are forcing yourself to do a certain kind of training or exercise that you just donโ€™t like โ€“ youโ€™re not going to be motivated to do it, and youโ€™re not going to continue on with it either. If you donโ€™t like running, donโ€™t run. Try swimming, or biking, or walking trails. Try all sorts of different things until you find something you enjoy, and something that challenges you.

Thatโ€™s it for now!! See what you can come up with, and let me know how it goes!! What are your tips to stay motivated?
